The Silver Spear Knights can backstab you too! So sparkly! Not a backstab but a rather rare grabbing animation. The thief was the only Forest Hunter with the ability to backstab me. He set my ass on fire :c. That's all for now. If you know of any other enemies that are able to backstab the player, let me know and I will post pictures of them.
It's not the "sweet spot" because this works identically on varying weapons. What's actually happening is the riposte or backstab, which is generally 1 or 2 punches for minimal damage and then the crit hit, is logging as 1 hit of the weapon, and then the crit hit. So instead of a grab/punch for 15 damage before the crit, it's a bonus, free hit
Go for a backstab like you usually would. It's a connection issue, which means that unless you're preternaturally good at timing there's no benefit to trying to time it perfectly. When you get behind him, go for it. Obviously, the sooner the better because you want to actually get the backstab, not just guard against latency.
It does look kind of weird. but I think most of the other animations in the game are better than most of what is in Dark Souls 1 and 3. It's a minor example but the prostration gesture has that much more fluid look to it in Dark Souls 2. And, of course there are the unique backstab and riposte animations. 13.
Right now I need: 1 Soul of Queelag 1 Core of Iron Golem 2 Soul of Sif 1 Soul of Moonlight Butterfly 1 Soul of Smough 1 Soul of Gwyndolin 1 Priscilla's Dagger Any help is much appreciated :3
Theres a little wind up period to allow people to escape to prevent iffy pivot backstabs and such from dark souls 1. Raiun. This is intended. In Dark Souls 1, the enemy would be frozen in place as soon as you initiated a backstab. It made backstabbing a super centralizing strategy and you could safely use it against basically any enemy that
Official GRAVITY of gamefaqs Dark Souls boards I believe I too have pooped your pants -- R1 Masher -- deni is a good man with a strong character!
Thats just lag yeah. In the original Dark Souls, you'd be 6 feet away and then get teleported into a Backstab animation. DS2 is much better this way.
Not a bug, time is convoluted in dark souls (it's latency and you can just google it or search here on the dark souls forums and you'll find one of my prior in-depth explanations for it so I don't have to type it yet again). TL;DR Git gud. You have backstab invincibility when standing up, but it is canceled the second you do something.
Backstabs are just buggy as all hell. The way it seems to not work is that the animations for enemies turning are not synced perfectly to where the game code thinks they are. So what you see on screen isn't necessarily accurate and finding the backstab sweet spot is as much a matter of luck as anything else.
