I am trying to convert a zombie villager to a normal villager, but I don't have a brown mushroom to make a fermented spider eye. I have all other needed equipment. If I go ~500 blocks to the Dark Oak forest will my zombie villager de-spawn. Also he is holding an item so he won't despawn if the chunk is loaded.
The bug. Villagers that have been infected by a zombie can despawn, even if they have been traded with. This makes it very difficult to rescue villagers after they have been infected, as the player may not move further than 128 blocks away from the infected zombie villager to gather all supplies needed to cure it.

Drowned are more likely to naturally spawn in rivers than in other areas. Certain ocean ruins will have drowned patrolling nearby, they will never despawn unless the world is set to peaceful. Finally, a normal zombie can be converted into a drowned if the zombie’s head stays underwater for longer than 30 seconds.
You rename them using the anvil, and then apply to given mob. Once named, the mob will not despawn. Of course, hostile mobs will remain hostile, mortal and in case of some, like creepers, suicidal, but at least they don't despawn. Additionally, you get monster's name over their head.
1 day ago · If any type of zombie kills a villager, there is a chance for the villager to transform into a zombie villager. This can occur in Java Edition, and in this case, the zombified zombie villager will not despawn if the player has traded with it at least once prior to its death.
You need to name the name tag with an anvil. Romans96 • 4 yr. ago. I renamed the zombie and it does not despawn any more, but after i renamed the zombie, any golem spawned any more. cciht01 • 4 yr. ago. I think some might despawn when you are out of the chunk or when there are too many in one chunk.
